Frequently asked questions
Companies use British IPs to see websites, search results, ads and prices the way people in the United Kingdom see them. Sites there are in English, and prices show in British Pound (GBP). Some of the most popular online stores in the United Kingdom are amazon.co.uk, ebay.co.uk and next.co.uk. Companies use British IPs to check how their own listings, ads and prices appear to local shoppers there. Common uses for British IPs include SEO monitoring, price monitoring and ad verification.
Manchester, Glasgow and City of London hold 45% of our British IPs together. We also have IPs in Birmingham and Liverpool. You can target a specific city in the United Kingdom, and postal code targeting is available on the Scale and Enterprise plans.
BT, Virgin Media and Sky Broadband carry 60% of our British IPs together. BT runs both a mobile network and fixed broadband, and Virgin Media is a fixed broadband provider.
The laws that apply to data collection in the United Kingdom are UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) enforces them. You can read more in DLA Piper's data protection overview for the United Kingdom. This is general information, not legal advice. Check with a lawyer for your use case.
Without a session, every request to a British IP gets a new IP. When you add a session ID, your requests reuse the same node and IP while the session is active, and the session ends after 60 seconds without requests. The IP can still change if its node becomes unavailable.
In the United Kingdom you can target by country, region, city, ISP or mobile carrier, and ASN, with zip or postal code targeting on the Scale and Enterprise plans. Manchester is one example of a city you can target. The more specific the targeting, the fewer IPs match it, and location and ASN are classified signals, not guarantees.
Customers who pass our screening can use our British proxies. We screen every customer's details against sanctions lists and other watchlists, and we ask for more verification depending on the use case, the access requested and the risk. Our proxies are for public web data only.
We don't give away free British proxies. Public free proxy lists are run by unknown operators, so you can't see who handles your traffic or how the IPs were sourced. You can create an account for free. Sandbox has no subscription fee and includes no credits, so it only sends traffic after you buy top-up credits. Plans are on our pricing page.
